Pakistan has more than 200 largest public universities, some of which date back to when the country first came into being. After Pakistan’s independence, the government built universities to provide knowledge and information to the newly formed republic so the people of our country can stand side by side with the world without any hesitation. That legacy continues to this day, with many universities focusing on technology, medicine, and science.

University of Punjab

It was already established in 1882 as one of the first universities in the Muslim Majority subcontinent. It has been serving quality education for many years to their students. The university has 4 campuses in Lahore, Gujranwala, and Jhelum, each providing 4 disciplines: Business Administration, Commerce, Law, and Information Technology.

National University of Science and Technology

It is also known as NUST, was founded in 1991, situated in Islamabad. NUST university has spread its branch campuses in Karachi, Rawalpindi, and Rizal Pur. NUST has many departments that provide degrees ranging from undergraduate to Doctorate programs. It is not easy to get admission to this biggest uni of Pakistan as they have maintained their standard and considers acceptance of candidates after a strict entrance exam.  

National University of Computer and Emerging Sciences

It was established in 1980 in Islamabad. The main campus was in the capital city but later, the branch campuses were developed in different province cities Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar, and Chiniot. Student enrollment ranges from 8000 – 9000 and provides a massive total of money as financial aid.

University of Karachi

The University of Karachi was founded in 1950 after Pakistan came into being. It is one of the oldest and largest universities in Pakistan. It was one of the largest universities in the city of light, which has more than 20 departments. Not just that university of Karachi gave space to the biggest university campus of IBA. 

Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS)

LUMS was established in the mid-’80s as a non-profit private higher education institution situated in Lahore. The university accepts only 3000 to 4000 brilliant students per year, after making a fairly merit based selection.

COMSATS University Islamabad

The COMSATS University Islamabad was built in 1994 on Science and Technology for Sustainable Development in the South. It is an intergovernmental organization whose purpose is to promote sustainable development growth in developing countries through the latest science and technology emergence. Well, It is spread on seven campuses, but the main campus is in the capital city, Islamabad, where the first pillar has been put. The university offers a broad range of undergraduate and postgraduate level degrees. 

Aga Khan University

Aga Khan University is not just recognized nationally but one of the internationally recognized universities in Pakistan. Aga Khan University was founded in 1983 as a non-profit higher education institution. The main campus is situated in the city of light, Karachi, although the branch campus is also located in London. The candidate who got admission to AKU feels so blessed because they have been known or their extremely low acceptance rate, considering only the country’s cream candidates who pass their entrance examination. They have excellent faculties; the departments include Medical College, School of Nursing, Institute of Educational Development, and Faculty of Arts and Sciences.

Bahauddin Zakariya University

Bahuddin Zakariya University celebrated their 45th anniversary. It is a non-profit higher education institution in Multan. They are providing degrees ranging in undergraduate to doctoral level, this university has all field departments.

International Islamic University

Islamic University is one of the first biggest universities as religiously affiliated. The Islamic University was founded in 1980 in Islamabad. The university gives admission to around 20,000 -25,000 students each year. They have an academic staff of 500-600 who are serving in different departments.

University of Management and Technology

This university came into being in 1990 at Lahore as a private education institution. The main campus is still situated in Lahore, but it has campuses in Sialkot that give admission to 8000 to 9000 students every year.
